My New Adventure- Voyageurs National Park

So So sorry about not updating but I finally have got some internet I can use! So to sum up the past couple of months since March 11th (oops!)

Rest of March, snowed a bunch and saved the resort, at least for another couple of weeks.

April, got super warm at the resort and we were barely getting to Easter, but just long enough for me to work a little longer. Abby (the president of my fan club) turned 3 on the 4th and we had a princess party. By about the 18th ish I moved back to Minnesota and stayed with my parents for a couple of weeks. Got my old room painted, cause it was the only one in the house not painted yet and the walls were icky. It really needed it. I helped out on the farm and hung out with my cuz Andy a whole bunch. I love Andy! I also got to see my BFF Jordan that I hadn't seen in way over 3 years! we always just missed each other by a week moving here and there.

May I spent my birthday by myself...drinking wine. cause I just moved to my new job in International Falls, MN and had no friends....it was a sad day. BUT my boss did by me a cake and Law Enforcement was nice to me (only because they wanted cake).

So My New Job. I work at the Rainy Lake Visitor Center of Voyageurs National Park (www.nps.gov/voya). It's about 10 miles east of I Falls, MN. I live about 3 miles SE of I. Falls. I drive about 20 minutes to work. I am a Interpretive Park Ranger and I have 2 different canoe trips (one I have to dress up like a voyageur *eck*) the other we just paddle around. I also do a Bald Eagle boat tour and a Discovery Boat Tour (that one I just talk about the park, history, geology and such). I also walk about and talk to people around the boat launch and picnic areas. I've been in training for about 3 weeks and I can't wait to just go out and talk to people!

My House. I live in the West wing of a gi-normous house! It was suppose to be just a studio set up (everything in one room) but it then turned to a one bedroom, and then when I moved in it was the whole half of the house, 3 bedrooms, 1 bath, big kitchen and living rm area. My land lady is sweet and is originally from England. She doesn't normally rent out but we happened to come across each other, me needed a place and she needed a little extra cash. I don't have pics right now but I will post some in the next couple of days.

People at work are great, my boss is funny, my team leader is also awesome! Everyone else is about 20 and from I. Falls. So I can't ask them to take to me the fun bars. Damn.

Any way, that is it in a nut shell. I promise to keep up on this now and post more pics of my new area.

Oh, yeah, I haven't legally been to Canada yet but I have touch Canadian water while on the boat. Its a thin line though some narrow passages! But I will hit up Canada soon!

Kettle Falls Dam in Voyageurs, this is one of 3 spots I believe where you can look SOUTH into Canada from the United States.

Garrett, Seth and Sara. My team mates!

The historic Kettle Falls Hotel is also known as the "Tiltin' Hilton" Because it was not built on a sturdy foundation the floor warped. The NPS restored the hotel but left the bar floor so people get the feeling of staying there long ago. there's like a 4 foot downward tilt in the floor. and the bar still serves alcohol. Talk about messing with drunk people. Who would think the park service would do that?!

The Elsworth Rock Gardens. This one guy constructed this huge garden of rock statues and gardens. There are no flowers planted yet.

Jordan! I'm so glad we live closer together for once!

I visited Jordan on the North Shore and he took me fishing! I caught a Sunny. I'm not showing the picture of the 28 inch Northern he caught. I'll state for the record I caught the northern first and it jumped off my hook.

At the very bottom of the rock in red there is a pictograph (whatever they are called) of a stick man and a horse. This is technically in Canada.

Over looking Lake Superior, when I visited Jordan. This is not where I work.

A water fall in Voyageurs National Park, the Vermillion Falls I believe.

OK! So it is my goal to take pictures with all the giant things in the area. On my goal list is Vic the Voyageur, Smokey the Bear and the Giant Blue Gill in Orr.

New Job, Theif, and Adventure!!

To catch everyone up on my life!!!
1) A little over a week ago I accepted a job for Voyagers National Park, Minnesota as a Park Ranger Interpreter. I will be moving to International Falls at the end of April to start my job on May 10th. www.nps.gov/voya
2) Last Thursday I was working by myself and a guy attempted to walk out but the alarms went off. To make a long story short. He ran, we couldn't catch him, but knew he had left his board in the front of my shop. We did a stake out and he finally came back. He ran again, almost hit the head of security with his car, ran a stop sign, a small police chase, which ended in his arrest. So he had no drivers license, his car is repo'd, he is charged with federal charges: recklessness on federal property and is sitting in jail. All for a 45 dollar pair of gloves.

3) So before Ann Louise lost her mind we went on a mini vacation. I took her wine tasting, zip lining, rappeling, caving, hiking and we stayed in a haunted hotel! It was a blast!

Sal, Me, Ann Louise, and Jon. The zip tower is in the background.

no more shoveling....PLEASE!

so I can't barely move my arms so this will be short. I have spent over 4 1/2 hours shoveling. Started with the steps, then the driveway, then the neighbors got stuck, then helped them chain up their 4WD, unstuck em, then shoveled the entire road which is about a football fields lenght, then unshoveled my car which is parked at the main road. I'm tired. No more shoveling. Sierra Summit has received over 8 feet of snow in the past week. My house (where it never snows...BS!) has received about 2 feet if not more.

I'm tired...I can't feel my arms.

Powder Day!

WOW! What a great day! I went skiing with Shannon and Chris and some of their friends today! We got a couple of feet of snow and I got to have my first powder skiing day EVER! It was fabulous! Know what is even better! You can go down runs you would never try and any ordinary day and fall and not get hurt! It's like falling into a pool of feathers! I had so much fun, my legs are so tired! But along with the wonderful skiing there is always the idiot drivers! In the mountains when it snows you need tire chains or 4WD. Well, Sean (my boss's son) drove me home. We are driving (around all the cars stuck on the road) and we get to one of the steeper hills. There is a RV stuck at the top, and about 4 cars behind it. We are stopped on the incline. Pretty soon, brakes on, we start sliding backwards, Sean stears the truck back into the snow bank. Then the Expedition infront of us starts sliding back toward us. I just said "Brace for impact!" and boom! we get hit. Well the Expedition yells out the window to make sure are ok, and turns to go back down the moutain (there was no going back up at that point) then we turn. We meet up and all he had was a little pin dent, and the ranch truck was fine. It was interesting seeing all of these trucks slide backwards down the hill. Pretty soon CHP came and was only letting one vehicle up the road at a time.

To continue. We got to my house, which we got stuck going up my road! Shannon got her car stuck coming home and she's not moving her car now for a couple of days, and Chris's friend Aaron got his truck stuck infront of Shannon's house. AND the neighbors decided it was a great day to move their stuff out of their house and had a Uhaul that got stuck a couple of times and messed up the road.

Fun times in Cali!

Oh sorry, no pics of the snow, I didn't want to re-ruin my "underwater camera" that I had to pay 100 bucks to fix because it sucks. Just hold a white piece of paper a foot infront of your face and thats what the picture would look like.

Till my next snow adventure!

Happy Valentines Day!

So on this romantic holiday (that I am spending alone...AGAIN!) I decided to share with you my latest pick up line...at least I think it was....or he was telling me I was fat...?

So the other day a guy was looking around in the store and asked me if I had any funny ski patrol shirts. I really didn't have anything like that and he told me it was a joke between him and his buddy. I mentioned I had a funny bar/beer shirt and he excitingly said that he wanted to see it. Well he wanted it. I brought it up to the front counter, told my boss to ring him up and I went back over to the rack I was rearranging. He then came over to me and handed me his card, told me he owns a fitness club and if I was ever in the area to call him and I could go work out there.

Okay....so was that a pick up line or did he really just tell me I was fat and needed to work out?

oh yeah, Happy Valentines Day...I hope someone is getting some cuddles right now.

Snow!

Thought I would post our pic online! My sis, her husband, Chris, and some of there friends, came to visit me a couple of weekends ago and we all went out skiing. Chris took off with his friends for most the day but my sis and I got to spend some time together. (Check out my cute new ski outfit. I love the resort business! oh yeah, I'm in the red jacket.) Behind us is Huntington Lake. It was a beautiful day as you can tell and we are getting more snow right now. Today I'm working in our Fresno Store making it pretty and restocking but I will be up at the resort for our busy presidents day weekend! We have received over 40 inches of snow in the past couple of days and should be getting alot more in the next 4 days! Minnesota- Eat your heart out!

Beyond the snow business, I am starting to hear back on a couple of jobs and I am hoping to get a offer! Wish me luck!
